Plane trees in the snow

The new edition of “Verzweigungen des Lebens” – Branches of Life – first published in 2021 – is now called “Platanen im Schnee” – Plane Trees in the Snow.

In winter, Hans, a German schoolboy, and Odette, the daughter of a French occupying soldier, meet for the first time on Tübingen’s plane tree avenue. Yet their love stands little chance amid the turmoil of the post-war years.

The artist Friedrich Zimmermann created an original drawing especially for the new cover.
